Mechanic Installed Wrong Parts, Now Accusing Theft Of Service.

Location: Savannah, GA

Received a notice from magistrate court for a "pre-warrant application hearing." I'll explain this as succinctly as I can:

Took our Jeep to a mechanic, they said we needed main battery and auxiliary replaced. Once completed it lit up with 40+ codes and wouldn't steer. Took it to our reliable mechanic (they were booked up the first go round) and they were dumbfounded at the work first mechanic did. Informed us the wrong battery was installed and it appeared to be old and dusty. Recommended replacing both batteries AGAIN.

Even after the replacement, the drive train system was still messed up and we had to take it to the dealership to get the module reprogrammed.

First mechanic would not refund us. Claimed they offer a "warranty" service and we should have brought it back to them. I found a laundry list of reviews from customers having similar experiences of wrong parts, faulty parts, over charging, sleazy practices. So no, we did not want them to touch the Jeep again. We finally disputed it with our credit card company and they sided with us, we got our money back. Now they're claiming theft of service, lol.

We ultimately incurred an additional $1,350 in repairs after the first mechanic's mistake.

What should we have prepared to fight this? I have the statements from the mechanic, credit card, and printed reviews from other victims of their misconduct.

TIA
