Mental Hospital Was Terrible

Location: Denver Colorado Edit: From what I've researched, this might not constitute medical malpractice, but at most maybe medical misconduct. I'll definitely be speaking to a lawyer tomorrow to get proper legal advice, and at the very least will be reporting this to the mental institution and the medical board (once I find out how.) Hi reddit! I've followed reddit admittedly mostly on YouTube, but I've come to seek advise. In very late August I went to a mental hospital. I had a terrible time there. I was voluntary, just there to get and sort out medications. And while I was there, I had to go to a regular hospital for what I thought was a stroke but turns out was an atypical migraine with what the doctor told me was *real stroke like symptoms.* I myself had to call for an ambulance because they refused to help me or explain to me what they even thought was going on. All I got as I sat in that hospital chair was a simple "you're fine, go to bed." This was on a Wednesday, I admitted myself on a Tuesday.

Anyway, after that I tried to go AMA and leave. I was not an active danger to myself or others, and was even told that I was going to leave because no one saw a legal reason for me to stay. Que around 4:30pm on Friday, I was told by the psychiatrist that she was going to force me on a hold. I asked why, and debunked her reasons with genuine logic. Her reasons included: she didn't think I was bipolar despite me saying I was, and my instance was a sign of psychosis. Her telling me that having no family to contact and being admittedly a little rude (not cursing just standoffish) when asked for a family contact was also a sign of psychosis. I at the time did not want my family involved because of family drama and I do not live with them so I saw no reason to involve them.

After some more back and forth, she told me she would allow me to either: A) Stay Voluntarily admitted until the following Tuesday and withdraw the AMA. Or else she would force me to go on a 72 hour hold.. Without having an actual reason too.

I simply nodded my head, and when she left I requested to see the patient advocate.

I'll make this long story shorter. On Sunday, after speaking to a case manager on Saturday as well as the advocate, I was told I was being allowed to discharge AMA. They refused to give me my requested patient information (my medical records), and when I was going over discharge with my case manager, I was told by her that the reason why me and a few others weren't being allowed to leave was because the CEO of the hospital had put an order or a request (don't remember exact phrasing) that they were to force everyone to stay for 7 days. No matter their status, voluntary or other wise, they had to try and make them stay 7 days.

I want to know, do I have any kind of malpractice case?? What exactly would the terms be, they rejected my requests multiple times. I'll give anymore information needed in the comments, I have a journal I used to document everything I started on Friday with dates and direct quotes.. Is this even legal?? Help please, I don't think they should be allowed to do this. Hell I wasnt even in there for the expected mental instability, I just needed my medications straightened for my Bipolar and Borderline Personality Disorder. I'm also 24 if this helps.
