Michigan Friend Of The Court Do I Need A Lawyer?

Basic summary is my child is 7 and his mother and I have been split for approx 4 years. At the time we split I was working seconds at a job that required frequent travel and custody reflected that. I quickly found a new job to go back to 50/50 custody and we have been amicably doing that since but we never changed the actual custody agreement with the court. Now the mother has recently started a long distance relationship. She says she has no plans of moving but it is the natural course relationships follow so I want the custody agreement actually changed with the court so it is legally recognized that I have 50% custody before any moving issues do arise. She is in agreement with me doing this so from what I am finding in my research it seems like a pretty simple form I can handle on my own and just submit to the friend of the court. Just wanted to reach out for advice and make sure as I don't want hubris to come between my child and I.
