Molestation As A Child
Do I have the legal premises to go to the police and file a report?
Location: Washington State, Snohomish County
I (38F) was molested as a child by a step cousin (no longer in contact with my step family anymore). I was in the 6th grade. My stepmom covered it up, I was grounded, and for the longest time never spoke about it. In 2020, while working, I ran into another step cousin (same family, his sister actually) and she pulled me aside before leaving to let me know that the entire family had known what her brother had done and was told that if they said anything at the time, they would be splitting the family apart. I've told multiple family members over the years and just recently told my aunt a couple months ago. My aunt told me that if she had known at the time it had happened, she would not have let me stay within that household. I was very bullied as a child by my own family and by classmates.
I was always told that it was too late to do anything about it and I'm just trying to figure out if I have the authority to go to the police station and file a report and if anything would ever be done about it.
