Mom Wants Me To Put My Name On A 15 Year Loan

My family is having trouble financially. It’s been an ongoing thing for a while now, but it’s gotten to a point where we’re thinking of down sizing where we live. The problemIt’s only my sister who has a job, so proof of income would be difficult. I’ve been asking my mom to help me get my ID or driver’s license so I could start applying for jobs since I was 16. I’m 19 now. It was always one excuse after another, and whenever I’d find a solution to the ‘problems’ preventing me from getting a job, another one would come up.

Eventually, I had to give up because she couldn’t find my Social Security card or birth certificate, and you can’t reorder them without two forms of identification.

Fast forward to the end of 2025, when she magically finds both my Social Security card and birth certificate after her money got really low and she starts rushing me to work like never before. I’m fine with working, and I’m fine paying her money to stay at the house…temporarily. But she’s talking about a 10–15 year loan, and I don’t plan to be around them for even another year or two.

If I don’t work with them, though, we’re all screwed. I wouldn’t be as opposed to doing this for my mom and sister if they weren’t evil incarnate. I have a nagging feeling that if I go along with this ridiculous plan, even when I’m ready to move out, they aren’t going to just refinance because they’re broke.

Not to mention, saving to actually get my own place is going to be a nightmare. I don’t have anyone I can stay with besides maybe my brother, but that’s a different can of worms.
