Moved Out Of A Place Landlord Says I Need To Pay $2,400 More Than My Original Security Deposit. Can He Do This Without An Itemized Receipt?

I recently moved out of a place with 3 other guys to, so my landlord did a maintenance check on the apartment. Upon getting back to us he told us we owe more than the original security deposit that we put down at the start of the lease, by about $600 more. Along with this he gave a vague breakdown of the cost saying things like "Wall repairs - $1,500", "Apartment cleanup - $500", or "Floor repairs - $450". Because of this I texted my landlord asking for an itemized list of repairs so I can see how that figure was reached. He responds with, "We got these charges from the contractors repair company, then we did our deduction of wear and tear and prior agreements with you all, then the left over after the deduction in the same format from the contractor as well as the photos. This is the best we can do at this moment as a property management." I did not really understand what he meant by this so I asked to him to, "Please provide the itemized statement show the charges, name of the item or service used, the quantity purchased, the total price for each item or service, and the final amount due." to which he told me this is not possible. So my question is how do I continue from here, is there someone I should contact or some other step I need to do? Any help is appreciated.
