My Dad Is Going To Prison And I Don’t Know What To Do Next

I don’t even want to write all of my history with it, but my dad has dealt with addition his whole life. He was straight when I was growing up, or did a good job pretending, but once I moved out of the house he spiraled.

Spring of 2025 he was arrested for possessing a large quantity of a controlled substance and got three felony charges. When to jail, posted bail, going to court, his next date was at the end of next month.

Well. Being an addict, you’re around addicts. So long story short supposedly (this is what I heard), his girlfriend (not long term, maybe a year) was selling drugs. They got raided and my dad, her, and a roommate were arrested. Of course more drugs and paraphernalia were found and sized.

He may or may not get out but that’s not for me to decide and I’m done fighting a losing battle.

What I need help with is on how to do the next steps.

I already have Power of Attorney, Medical POA, and POA for real estate. All of these are submitted to the bank, the mortgage company, and I can send it to who ever.

I guess next step is cleaning up the house and selling it?

We talked about what happens if he goes go away for a long time and he knows I plan to sell the house.

I can’t afford his house or utilities, and I do not want to keep it. After that would be paying off his truck, because I want it. I have a plan for what’s left after everything, but I don’t know what everything consists of.

Any advice is appreciated.
