My Ex Has Been Harassing Me And I Am Genuinely Scared For My Safety

Location: Maryland

For background context, I have been broken up with my ex for almost a year, and I currently have an active protective order against him. In September, I reported him for violations of the protective order, and he was charged with four counts. However, the case was dropped due to evidence of mutual contact.

For the past three weeks, my ex has been harassing me online. He is blocked and cannot directly tag me or mention me, but he has been telling me to die and spreading lies, claiming that I lied in my court documents by saying he is a predator, a rapist, and that he hit me.

For additional context, he is popular online, and many people independently came forward stating that he had sexually assaulted, raped, or engaged in sexual contact with minors. He is now falsely claiming that I orchestrated his exposure and is threatening to sue me for harassment. I did not know about any of these allegations prior to them coming out.

I originally obtained the protective order due to stalking and harassment. He continues to say that I need to “speak up and tell the truth,” that I will “answer for my sins in court,” and he admitted online that he accessed my email without my permission and posted my Reddit post publicly. He explicitly stated online that he has been going through my email since court.

He is also claiming that I am conspiring with his deceased father and his father’s side of the family, alleging that they are paying for my lawyer, and stating that I have “no idea what I’m playing with.”

I genuinely fear for my safety because he is now naming me directly, threatening me, and using intimidation tactics to try to force me to speak. I have been ignoring it because I do not want to escalate the situation, but he keeps saying that he will not leave me alone, that by the time he is done with me I will be “under the jail,” and that I will regret ever doing this.

I called the non-emergency police line to report this, but I was told that unless he directly tags me, there is nothing they can do. This feels insane, as he is threatening me almost every hour. I am genuinely afraid because I do not know what he is capable of, and I believe he may try to harm me.

Is there anything I can do?
