My Father Got Arrested For Doing The Unthinkable

Location: Georgia, US

Hello everyone,

I am in need of some dire help/advice. My family and I have been struggling for years. WAITING for years!

In 2020, my sister came to me and told me that my father had been sexually abusing her from age 14 to age 17. I immediately told my mom, he got arrested. Then, he was bonded out a few months later. Here we are now, and nothing but a few pretrial motions have happened. And we have barely been involved or notified about it all. We dont even know our district attorneys name, we have never met him! And the victims advocate is cold, barely helpful, doesnt care, and never calls back when I try to get updates. Its been terrible.

My family and I are just at a standstill. We dont know what to do to get justice, or how we should carry ourselves through this case. Earlier this year, there was a pretrial motion held and I was subpeonaed (I am a part of the case because I reported that he was inappropriate with me before with comments, touched my boobs when I was half asleep..). When I went into the courtroom for the motion and sat at the witness podium, it was the first time I looked at him in the eyes for almost 6 years.

And the judge STILL hasnt decided the decision for the motion. AND IT WAS IN THE BEGINNING OF THIS YEAR! The victims adv told me the case has been going on for this long because they were prioritizing trials for people in the jail. I suppose that means a pedo gets to walk the streets and live his life, while we live ours in fear and uncertainty.

What can we do? Is this normal? We havent been educated on barely anything. Never been talked with about how to handle ourselves in court by anyone. But who knows if the actual trial will even happen in this decade. Forgive me if I havent said something correctly. We know next to nothing about this stuff!

My sister was called to the investigators office to be asked if she still wanted to go through with it (in 2024/early 2025 i think), and they showed her this big stack of paper saying it was all the "evidence". If they have so much evidence, why is it taking this long?

I just want to know if there is anything we can do to benefit us or make our situation better. Request a new victims advocate? I want my family and my sister to be able to keep living life without the heavy dark cloud over our heads. We want it to be over with.

Thank you in advance.
