My Mom Wants Me To Sign Over My Medical Power Of Attorney To Her As Soon As Im 18
I turn 18 soon and I was talking to my mom about how that will affect my medical decisions since I have labs and doctors appointments pretty frequently. She said she probably wouldnt have access to any of my medical information or be able to schedule me appointments or anything (which I was happy about since she has kinda withheld my own medical information from me for the past 17 years).
After saying this though, my mom said that she should probably have me sign something that would allow her to make me appointments and view my records. I asked her if that was necessary considering I am perfectly capable of making medical decisions and scheduling appointments on my own. She said it would be helpful for when I was in college, and necessary if I was ever incapacitated and they needed to make medical decisions for me.
While I agree with the whole power of attorney thing, I dont want to sign away ALL of my medical information and decisions to her. Im not even sure if thats possible or how that works. Is there an option where she only gets my information/power to make decisions when Im incapacitated? If so what exactly is that? Can it be reversed? What if I get married and want my spouse to be my power of attorney? I dont want to have to tell my mom that I dont want her viewing my medical records, I have nothing to hide, but… I also dont want her to be able to view my medical records. Idk I was just finally looking forward to being free but now shes trying to control me again.
