My Neighbor Has Gone Missing And I Don’t Know Anything About Them
Hello everyone,
This is gonna be a long story so I apologize if it gets wordy, but I will try to include all the important details.
Location: Ramsey County, Minnesota:
I live in a very small apartment next to a university, with only about 10 units. Our landlord ended up retiring and selling the property to a bigger company just before this all started (take note of that.)
I’m a very busy person so I don’t really pay attention to the cars that come in and out of our parking lot. However, we started getting a few major snow storms mid February and I began noticing that one of the cars in our lot hadn’t been moved/cleared of snow. I thought nothing of it but 2 weeks went by without any movement so I asked our new landlord if he could match the plates to a tenant because I was becoming concerned. Apparently that information got lost when my old landlord sold the property to him so he decided to send out an email to ask who owned it. 2 emails later, nobody responded. I told my boyfriend about the situation and he told me with a 100% certainty that the car belonged a tenant because he had parked behind them and seen them walk into our building months prior. I reiterated to our landlord that I was more concerned about the tenants safety rather than a parking spot. He completely ignored my concern and decided to tow it anyway.
I started to notice that one of the apartment windows facing the lot had their blinds open 24/7 and never had any lights on. One morning I was eyeing it - and it hit me. Something in the window was catching the light. An ornament… on a Christmas tree. As a fellow procrastinator I know that’s not entirely unusual but the tabs on the car my landlord towed away expired DECEMBER of last year. I know this because I snapped a picture before it was towed. As if that’s not bad enough, I realized the windows were cracked open as well.
There’s no name on the mailbox. I don’t have a description of their appearance. No information.
I called the cops today to do a welfare check. They knocked, obviously no answer. Then they left. I’m at a loss on what to do next.
I know getting more information from my landlord might be the best path but how do I make him understand the gravity of the situation when he’s ignored my concern thus far? What can I legally accomplish if I get more information? Something isnt right. How can I help?
Sincerely, a concerned neighbor.
edit: I reached out to my current landlord again (really tried to emphasize the importance of the situation) waiting on a response.
