My Parents Illegally Evicted Me And Gave My Dog To A High-kill Shelter While I Was At Work. How Can I Legally Force The Shelter To Release Him To Me And Not My Parents?

Location: Florida "I (26M) came home from my double shift today to find my locks changed. I have lived in this house for over 2 years and I pay $500 in rent monthly to my parents. They gave me no notice. The worst part is that they took my dog, Buster, to a high-kill shelter. My neighbor saw the van. My mom messaged me saying I can't have him back because I'm now 'homeless' and 'unfit' to care for him. Buster is registered in my name, I have all his vet records and I paid for his adoption. I am currently sitting in a 24-hour laundromat with nothing but my phone. Since I pay rent, isn't this an illegal self-help eviction? Can the police help me get back inside? How can I stop the shelter from putting my dog down or adopting him out if my parents told them they are the 'owners'? Can I sue my parents for the cost of the reclaim fee and the emotional distress of losing my pet? I have almost no money left because I spent it all supporting them this year. Please help, I need to save my dog."
