My Parents Used My Name On Their Home Insurance Now Filing Claims

Hi everyone,

So my parents own a couple of rental properties and currently one of them they are living in because they go back and forth to Florida. We are live in Illinois and have been getting hit with so many storms. A couple weeks ago the house they are staying had some roof damage. So they filed a claim for that. Then the next week another storm and a tree fell on my parents car. Another claim for that. And then the latest storm a tree fell on their house. Little did I know they had been using my name for the insurance on their house. And I only found out because they needed to stay in a hotel. And since the insurance is in my name I had to be there to allow them to check into the hotel room. This house is in an LLC and I am an acting member of this LLC.

I am fuming… me and my husband have our own home and also rental properties and I am worried about the premiums going up on our houses after this massive claim. I just don’t understand why they would do something like this.

I have requested the disclosure statement of the policy they took out in my name. I am waiting to hear back. Another issue is all the checks will be written in my name, at this point I don’t have the bandwidth to be dealing with this issues!! I don’t even know what insurance company it is because they have been navigating this claim using their email. So tell me what would you do?
