Obtaining A Civil No Contact Order

Card image cap

Location: Maine

I left an unsafe situation a few months ago when I finally moved out of my parents’ house. I’m now in a safer, temporary housing situation, but have been dealing with constant harassment from both my parents since leaving.

I initially left because of years of physical, emotional, sexual, and financial abuse from both of them. I don’t have physical evidence of any of this, unfortunately, but I have documented the harassment. I have screenshots of the many, many messages from them, my repeated requests for them to stop, and their disregard of each request. They’ve also been reaching out to people they believe know my location and have been sending me unwanted gifts, both of which I also have evidence of.

It’s at this point that I’d like to get the law involved. I had been waiting until November so that I could be removed from the family’s insurance before taking legal action, but the harassment has crossed a line now.

I’m a young adult and am not familiar with any legal processes. I’d really appreciate any advice on what I can do to obtain a no contact order (or anything similar), if claims of abuse without evidence hold any weight, and whether it would be smart to even pursue this before their insurance’s enrollment period. I also worry about the possibility of being kept on their household insurance without my consent, so additional advice about that would also be appreciated.

Thank you in advance, apologies if this is poorly worded at all.
