Pressured By Attorney To Drop Oop

Card image cap

Location: Tennessee

Just like it says, at the initial hearing for my Order of Protection, his defense attorney told me that the CPS case hadn't substantiated abuse (true, we left before it escalated beyond a photo and ai manipulation, with super intense grooming, kid is now safe and it is not ongoing) and that the criminal investigation was pretty much all wrapped up. I told him I had surrendered my phone the day before to detectives, so I don't think that's true at all. But he pressed, insisting I didn't want this "nagging over my head", like it was all an inconvenience. This was a junior attorney in court. The partner called later and had similar things to say. Confirmed with the detective on the case that they talked to prosecutors this morning and it is NOT over. We reset for a month from now. I have to go get my last load of stuff this week, but after that, just waiting out the criminal investigation and hope something comes of the investigation before then, so I don't have to see him again.

So can an attorney knowing lie and/or pressure someone to drop an order of protection? (And yes, I am meeting with one for myself this week, I was silly to think it would be easy to win with truth. Especially if opposing counsel isn't super worried about it.
