hey, I’m looking for some legal guidance. A few months ago, I engaged in an online thing (we are all above 18+) where I pretended to be someone else using their images. this was ongoing for about 1–2 months, but I ended all contact once I realized it was wrong and too far in, and admitted to the person I was catfishing

the most concerning part for me legally is that I accessed the other person’s phone (the one I used photos of) while it was unlocked and took some private images to send to this person. I did not coerce or force them; the phone was momentarily open and I acted impulsively

since then, there has been no further contact after i confessed. Recently, the person whose images I used has connected with the person involved and has filed or plans to file a police report regarding the situation, and report to my school (college)

I mainly am worried about

- how serious this may be legally, particularly regarding privacy or unauthorized access laws since catfishing isn’t illegal

- how best to respond to protect myself and handle this responsibly?
