Received Traffic Citation, Car In Picture Is Not My Car
Location: (FL) I recently received a traffic citation for speeding in a school zone in the mail addressed to me, including my Driver's License ID. The car that is pictured and listed in the description is not my car nor is the plate anywhere near the lettering on my plate. The car is a completely different make/ model/ color, looks nothing like my car.
It appears to be an automated camera (you can view the video of the car speeding in the school zone) so I'm assuming this person was never pulled over and it somehow got my name attached to this plate?
I called the DMV and the lady on the phone was able to tell me it is a business vehicle but no more details than that. After calling the DMV, I called the number on the citation and spoke to a representative on the phone. I was told I have to get it dismissed in court as only a judge can dismiss/ handle a school zone traffic citation.
The court date isn't for another month and a half, are there any other steps I need to take in the meantime? Google of course has me worried there could be identity theft involved or something more serious. Just seeking professional opinions and curious if this has happened to anyone else.
Location again: (FL)
