Repo And Police Come To My House Constantly

Location: northern Utah

My husband and I have owned our house for 7 years. We moved out of our house in 2023 and rented it out to a family who seemed really great. It’s on me and my husband for not doing background checks or investigating better into them renting our house. We told our renters we would leave for one year and be back. We weren’t making any money on the rent we just wanted the mortgage taken care of through rent so we could come back in a year. Anyway long story short we moved back in Sept of 2024. Collecting rent payments was always stressful during the year we left because they never paid on time and sometimes not at all. It stressed us out a lot. We chalked it up to them being airheads and once again it’s on us for being too lenient. Now that we have been back home for almost two years we have had repo officers, collections agencies and police officers show up A LOT. At least 8 times. This last repo officer that came yelled at my 13 year old son because he didn’t believe him when my son kindly told the man the family no longer lived here. I intervened because I was on my way to the door anyway when I heard how hard and aggressive the knock was. The Repo guy threatened me saying the cops are on their way and I told him “Good. They know where this family lives and you can ask them.” I am not mad at this repo officer at all because I understand that he probably goes into hostile situations all the time and he never knows how people will act. The whole interaction scared me though because I did read in the paper that our old renters swindled and scammed a bunch of people out of lots of money. I am scared because I don’t know why people think this guy still lives here. How can I fix that? What if some crazy person comes over with a gun demanding their money and they don’t think we are telling the truth. I am scared for myself and kids. Do I go to law enforcement? How can I change those records so it doesn’t show that the old renters don’t live here anymore?
