Roommate’s Cat Pissed On My Bed Multiple Times…

Card image cap

Location: Texas

My roommate’s cat has apparently been having UTI issues that has resulted in him peeing all over my bed multiple times over a few days span. After the first instance, I made sure to keep my door closed almost permanently since I know cats like to return to the scene of the crime. Of course the two times I leave my door open for 5 minutes to use the restroom, he quickly sneaks in and soils my bed twice in 2 completely different spots so now the entire mattress is covered. I’ve completely soaked the spot with enzymatic cleaner to no avail unfortunately. The mattress smells like pee regardless of how much cleaning I do.

I gave my roommate the ultimatum of either hiring professional cleaners or buying a new mattress. She has adamantly stated she will only pay for half of the cost of cleaners and refuses to purchase a new mattress because “I know what I signed up for living with 2 cats” ????. She bought a mattress topper despite me not asking for one and it not alleviating the smell at all.

Essentially my question is how reasonable is it to take this to small claims? I have photos of the stains and text conversations - am I just going to waste money & time on the legal fees? The mattress is not cheap by any means which is why this is a larger issue than just buying a new one myself.
