Roommate Taking Me To Court Over Something I Didn't Do- Next Steps?

Card image cap

location: virginia USA

long story short, my roommate who abandoned his lease and moved out early february apparently made a police report claiming that in a 12 day period of time in december, i was "slamming cabinets and doors to intimidate him" and "breaking into his room to destroy his property". virginia crime code is TRS-5717-M1, class 1 misdemeanor. police came by today to serve me the summons and the situation has been kind of confusing.

edit to add: we were jointly responsible on the lease and the bedroom was not subleased to him specifically, so i'm unsure if the room actually counts as "his property" anyway

first thing is that i wasn't even in the state for the last 7 of those 12 days and have plane tickets, witnesses, pictures, and bank statements of me using my cards in another state to prove that. second thing is that i didn't do any of that. and if i did slam a cabinet or a door, so what...? i didn't think that was illegal lol.

what i'm confused about is the fact that this was issued in december and the court date was supposed to be in january, but i was never served this court summons or made aware of this situation before the court date and neither me nor him showed up to court, obviously. according to the police someone called in a tip about this yesterday (presumably him) so they had to come reissue the court summons with a new date. they also contemplated just throwing the case out because my roommate spelled my name wrong, got my birthday wrong, and got my appearance completely wrong. why was i not served the first time?

the other thing is that this roommate stopped paying rent and moved out without notifying anyone (me or the landlord) or breaking the lease, and i planned to sue him for unpaid rent after the lease was up. how does that affect this, if at all?

lastly is this something i really need to be worried about at all? the cops seemed to not care at all and said the most that would probably happen to me is a slap on the wrist. court date is in a little over a week, will i be fine if i show up with proof that i didn't do what he says i did? do i need to get a lawyer for this or is it probably fine?
