Sexist Wage

Location: Oregon
6-8 years ago a job hired me at 12-13 dollars an hour. I was desperate for a job so I took it. Seemed like a fun place to work for. I was young and naive, gullible.

Not entirely related but I was being payed a low wage while fixing everyone else’s jobs and I was GOOD at my job. I was very good.

I was the only female in that position, the men made jokes about gang banging me. Eventually I experienced some really messed up psychological sexual harassment. There’s a lot more to this story I wish I could forget. I was backed into a corner while a supervisor… yeah I don’t wanna talk about it. I was constantly being hit on. You can see this was not a good place for me to work. I experienced my first mental health crisis’s at this job.

A month later, they were hiring men for the same position at 18 an hour. I start complaining, they told me that we can’t talk about pay at work. Then a few weeks later at a meeting they announce that they were not allowed to tell us we can’t talk about pay.

This isn’t worth going after is it? The only thing I would pursue is the way they payed me compared to the way they payed the men for the SAME JOB.
