Should I Allow New Neighbors To Replace Part Of My Chain Fence So They Can Build A Privacy Fence?
Location: Anderson County, SC
Hi y'all! Thank you for stopping by my question. I purchased a house in 2020. It has a chain link fence for the backyard. It is overgrown with weeds because life got the best of me, but I am starting to tackle that.
The couple that lived next to us passed a few months ago, and the house is being sold. The kids of the people across from it are purchasing.
Today, the guy came over to ask a question, but also asked for permission to replace part of my fence with a privacy fence. They have children who they are worried will stick their hand through. I have a Doberman. While she is a sweetheart, I fully understand this reasoning.
I gave the excuse of "Oh, I have to speak with my partner" before giving an answer, which he did not seem happy about. He told me that he already got permission from the people on the other side. Went on to talk about how if not, he would have to leave a gap, but then I(myself, not him) would have weeds to deal with like we have now.
I am not an experienced homeowner. I am in my 20s with no guidance on this stuff. My parents always had houses in the country, where this would never have been brought up either. I have seen stories on TikTok of nightmare neighbors, and I am scared that letting them will give them some sort of power or potentially cause issues with me.
Edit: This would only be a PORTION of the side fence.
