Should I Report A Lawyer For Not Giving Money Back To A Client?
Hello, I am needing some advice on whether or not I should report the lawyer I work for to the state bar.
One of our clients paid us $4000 for services, however, when she asked for her money back we had not started on her case yet. We had not done any work for her case at the time. She asked for $3000 back because she was under the impression we had started work on the case. The lawyer had a call with her and agreed to the $3000, knowing that she gave us $4000. I asked the lawyer if was correct before the check was sent out and he asked me “is she asking or you,” which made me feel worse about the situation.
For some background, we usually refund people if we have not done work for in the past. Additionally, this client had already paid a consultation fee, so that fee is none refundable. So we owe this client $1000, that the lawyer is knowingly keeping because she offered that number.
Is this a reportable matter?
