Smoke Smell And Neighbors Smoking At New Apartment. Location: Wi
I just moved into an apartment after a breakup. I am in Wisconsin. I’m living there alone. I got the keys on Friday and we looked around. I feel like I smelled the smoke faintly but I kind of looked past it because I was just so excited.
Location: Wisconsin
So now I’ve been living here for a few days and I am realizing it reeks. I’m devastated. My clothes and belongings all smell like smoke. And to make things worse, I have a feeling that it wasn’t just the previous tenant because I aired out the bathroom and it smelled better and then not two hours later it smelled like disgusting soot or something.
I did email the leasing office and ask if they can run an ozone generator in my apartment but my landlord has been so rude to me ever since I signed the lease. I am just so upset. I went through a breakup, I’m one year sober and I was excited for this new chapter in my life and this is just really souring it.
I haven’t heard back from the leasing office yet. But I’m kind of thinking they will say no. And even if they say yes, I don’t know if that will fix the problem because like I said, it seems that people are smoking in units next to me.
I scoured the lease agreement and it doesn’t say anything about smoking (that I could find). Had it said “smoking is allowed in the units” I would not have signed the lease.
Is there anything I can do? At this point I’m contemplating breaking the lease but I really don’t want to have to do that.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
