Sold My Couch On Fb Marketplace, And Now Getting Threats Of Small Claims Court

Hi i sold my large sectional L shaped couch on facebook marketplace and measured it with my roommate to be roughly 85 inches x 85 inches on each side. This guy was immediately interested, and messaged me he would take it. I disassembled it for him (Just unhooked two pieces from each other, not hard to see how big it is) and then he came to see it, exclaimed how much he loved it and venmoed me $500 for it and took it in a moving truck home.

It’s a really nice sectional and the actual value is most likely $1000-2000. Anyways, he had it for a week and then messaged me on facebook to let me know he measured it again and it is way bigger than expected. He immediately came in hot and gave me two options, that I either cover the cost of the $ he loses in selling it again, or i immediately send him $250 for the misrepresentation. I responded and apologized for it not working out and expressed that I measured it prior but did not measure from wall to edge and that he was able to do the measurements again in person when he bought it, and that I will not be refunding him or covering the cost if he resells.

He then immediately responded with pictures of it being roughly 97 inches both ends and I do absolutely recognize I measured it incorrectly, even though I really didn’t mean to. I apologized again and owned up to the fact that I didn’t measure it correctly, and I do feel badly about that, but that I still don’t feel this should end in me owing him half of the money he paid for it.

Not sure what next steps could be, but looking for advice. Could he actually win in small claims? Should I offer a smaller amount for a partial refund?
