Someone Used My Home Address To Ship Drugs Internationally And Now Fedex Is Billing Me

I’m hoping to get some advice because I honestly have no idea what else to do at this point.

Recently I ended up in a really weird situation involving FedEx and a package that I had absolutely nothing to do with.

Apparently, an international shipment was sent using my home address as the sender/return address without my knowledge or permission. I never shipped anything, didn’t authorize anyone to use my address, and didn’t even know this package existed until it showed up back at my house after a failed delivery overseas (it was originally going to someone in Poland).

When the package was returned to my address, I opened it trying to figure out what it was, and discovered it contained weed. Since I obviously didn’t want to be involved in anything illegal (weed is legal here in my state but importing drugs isn't), I immediately contacted my local police department and voluntarily turned the package over to them. I’ve never possessed or shipped anything like that and my address seems to have just been used by someone else as a fake return address. The invoice form was filled out by the impersonator and signed, by forging my signature.

Here’s where things get frustrating:

FedEx later billed me for import/export duties and tariff fees connected to that shipment, claiming I owe them over $700. I disputed the charges through their billing portal explaining that the shipment was fraudulent and that I was not the sender or responsible party.

They denied the dispute with no explanation, no request for documentation, and no follow-up at all. Just a denial notice in the portal.

So now I’m stuck being billed for an international shipment involving illegal contents that I didn’t send and actively reported to police myself.

I filed a fraud case with the customer support agent and reached out to their duty disputes department before I received the denial. The number the customer agent gave me to contact the person handling the case has been unreachable.

I heard that if I don't pay the fees, the debt will go to collections in my name. What do I do?

The charges are 100% real as its under my actual FedEx account and in the online billing portal. The package was delivered with an official FedEx tracking number. I dont need to figure out if FedEx is scamming me or not. I just want to know how to get them to waive the charges.
