Soon To Be Husband Wants Part Of My Injury Settlement

Card image cap

My soon-to-be ex-husband [38M] wants what he's entitled to in our divorce. I was involved in a car accident and was awarded 750k this last June in my personal injury settlement. Worker's comp covered all my expenses since it was work related. When I received the money, I deposited it into our joint account for the purpose of investment only, not to pay bills. We have a separate checking account to which we both make direct deposits to pay bills with. The only thing I agreed to was to use 30k of my settlement to remodel part of our house.

Now we are starting the process of divorce and he is claiming that he should get what he deserves from my injury. I did receive the settlement while we were married but he spent nothing (all paid by worker's compensation) and lost nothing (he's salary based so no lost wages). Is he really entitled to part of my settlement just because we were married at the time and he took care of me for the first month of my injury? We have been married since 2021.

Location: California

Edit to say that the money is currently dispersed amongst several stocks/bonds.

Advice needed. Thanks in advance.
