Step-mom Physically Assaulted My Daughter During Visitation—need Advice On Next Steps

Card image cap

Hi everyone, I’m in a really difficult position and could use some outside perspective or advice.
To give some background, I have an ongoing custody arrangement with my kids' dad. A few months ago, his current wife (the kids' stepmom) falsely reported me to DCF. The case was completely dropped because there was zero truth to it, and my custody time remained untouched. However, things have understandably been very awkward between us since then.
Over this past weekend, while the father wasn't home, my daughter got into an argument with her stepmom. According to my daughter, the argument escalated to the point where the stepmom physically assaulted her—hitting and spanking her multiple times under the guise of "disrespect," and then pushing her hard to the ground. My daughter now has a bruised knee from the fall.
The kids' dad wasn't present when it happened. I want to protect my daughter and hold whoever is responsible accountable, but I'm trying to figure out the smartest legal and protective steps to take next without jeopardizing my custody case.
Has anyone dealt with a situation where a step-parent physically harmed their child during visitation?
What actions should I take first (DCF report, police report, medical evaluation, contacting my attorney)?
Any advice or insights on how to handle this would be deeply appreciated
