Stolen Kia From Dealer Legal Advice?

Card image cap

Hi everyone I’m trying to explain what happened in a clear timeline, because this situation has been extremely concerning.

On April 1, I purchased a Kia Soul from Honda DTLA. Everything was fine at first.

On April 2, I noticed two problems

the check engine light came on

I could smell gas inside the car and

I immediately took the car back to Honda for service. They agreed to take the vehicle and work on it.

About a week later, I hadn’t heard anything, so I called Honda. They told me they couldn’t figure out the issue and said they would send my car to DTLA Hyundai instead.

Another week passed, and this time Honda updated me that they would be replacing a hose because it was causing a gas leak.

Now it’s April 20, and the police knocked on my door. They told me my Kia Soul had been

found running, abandoned and with my keys still inside!!!!

I immediately called and contacted the service manager at Honda to ask what happened. She connected me with the service manager at Hyundai. I was told that Hyundai allowed someone (“a guy”) to drive my car around to run up miles to see whether the problem was fixed.

That explanation makes no sense to me because

who has my keys while the car is in their possession?

if the car was driven by this “guy” why was it later found running with my keys inside?

At this point, the dealers are asking me to go pick the car up from the impound so they can try to fix it again. I’m extremely frustrated and honestly don’t understand how this happened or why I’m being forced to resolve it with them again.

If anyone has advice on what I should do next please I would appreciate it (I already made a police report) location: Los Angeles
