Was Injured In A Car Accident Last Week In Florida. How Does All This Work?
Location: Florida
Driving around 45- 50 miles an hour down a main Street on the way to work last week when some kid driving an Uber pulled out in front of me trying to turn left across traffic. Hit him hard, all the airbags went off, both cars pretty much destroyed. Everybody was more or less okay. He was deemed 100% at fault. Pain didn't seem too bad at the time, but if anything seemed to get worse over the following few days. Finally went and got an extra yesterday it turns out I've got a broken rib so that's why it's not getting better. Insurance totaled out my car so I've been stuck with a rental for the last few days. My question is... What next? His insurance through Uber reached out good morning immediately after the crash and offered me $1000 "as a gesture of Goodwill". Me, not thinking said okay? Sure I guess. Then they called back on a recorded line and laid out that this was a settlement for the injuries and I could not claim any lost wages future medical, future pain and suffering, so on and so forth, and all the alarm bells went off, realizing they were trying to get me to sign away all of my rights. I told them no absolutely not and ended the call. They called back and offered me a little bit more to account for the day of work I missed, and since then have refused anything further. What are the next smartest best steps to take here?
