Went In For A Massage And Now I'm In The Hospital
Location: Harrisburg, PA
Writing this from my ER bed. I'm really scared and I don't have anyone to help me through this, so I'm hoping someone here can point me in the right
direction because I genuinely don't know what to do.
On July 1st I went for a massage at a spa I've been to before. I've always gotten Swedish massages there and never had any issues, which is why I went back. This massage was completely different. It was much more aggressive than anything I'd had before. There was a lot of pressure on my muscles, and at one point the therapist jerked my neck with a towel. I left feeling extremely sore but thought I'd just be sore for a few days.
Instead, my neck became really stiff, then I started getting migraines. Last week I started losing parts of my vision, which scared me enough to go to the ER.
I'm now in the hospital and have been diagnosed with a cervical artery dissection. The doctors told me this is a serious condition because it can lead to a stroke. Before this massage I was healthy and had no neck problems.
I'm just a college student and I have no idea how I'm going to pay these medical bills.
From a legal standpoint, what should my next steps be? Should I contact the spa first and give them a chance to respond, or should I speak with a personal injury attorney before contacting them? Should I be requesting copies of my medical records now? Is there anything I should or shouldn't say to the spa if I reach out? I don't want to make a mistake that could hurt me later if I end up needing legal representation.
