What Can Legally Be Done For Previous Homeowners Hiring A Family Friend To Do A Job And Flooded Our Basement As A Result.

Location: twin cities MN

My partner and I just bought our first house. In the agreement before the house was bought, the sellers agreed to remove cabinets and a fridge from the basement. This was signed on and agreed upon with all the paperwork beforehand.

Closing day, we move in and not only did they leave a bunch of their stuff, 10 bags of trash in the backyard, bikes, dishes, yard appliances etc, they left the cabinets and fridge they were supposed to remove. Since they signed a contract, they sent a family friend yesterday to remove them. The fridge was hooked up to a haphazard water line. The people the previous owners sent got a little cap and a bucket for it and called it a day. The water was turned off so we thought everything was fine. We come home this morning, check the basement and the cap they got was cracked and broken so it completely flooded the entire basement.

There's water being squeezed out from the floorboards now. We had to completely turn off the water for the entire house and the hot water heater because there's no way for us to disconnect that water line. We will have to get a professional to come in now and disconnect that water line and the floors are completely ruined. TLDR: They didn't remove what they were supposed to before closing and they didn't get a professional to fix the water line, or close it so in turn, the basement is flooded and now the floors ruined. What can be done legally?
