What To Expect If I Submit A Complaint To The Labor Board?

Card image cap

Location: North Dakota

I just left a job for illegal work practices. It's a very small, 3 location operation that garnishes wages of minors and deducts peoples pay for petty reasons. They deducted my wage in the middle of a pay period and the paycheck for that pay period reflects only the deduced wage, not half and half like the ND labor law website says it should. They threaten minor (aged 14-17) employees with being forced to pay fines the store may receive, and the minors also say their paychecks get garnished for tills being short, even by a dollar. One said $100 was short once and saw that $100 missing from her paycheck.

I live in a small town. I know they receive my info once I submit the report, and I'm not looking forward to any backlash I might receive in the community as the store manager is a community spearhead. But legally, what would this look like should I move forward? Will I have to potentially go to court? I'm very worried about mine and my wives quality of life after I do this so I want to know it'll be worth it.
