Work Forcing Me To Work With Chemicals That Cause An Allergic Reaction.

I work in food service and we are assigned stations to work at the start of our shift. One of those stations in dishes. They had assigned me in there once before, and despite using all the available PPE, including elbow length rubber gloves, I developed a nasty rash all the way up to the elbow on both arms. My skin broke out into hives and was very itchy and sensitive to heat. I submitted an incident report the moment it happened, my skin was showing signs of being irritated right when I pulled my gloves off at the end of the shift. They didn't put me back in the dish section for a little under a month, but just yesterday, the put me back in the dish section. I let my manager know about the allergic reaction and they said unless I had a doctors note and an accommodation, that I had to work where they told me to. Well I got the same exact rash again, and again I submitted an indecent report. The rash lasts a little over a week and is very uncomfortable. I suspect it may be an allergy to the sanitizer that we use. The PPE we have is also compromised because the gloves are always damp inside when I put them on and some of the pairs had visible holes in the gloves. I dont break out with minimal contact to the sanitizer, but prolonged 8 hours of contact makes me break out. I could also be allergic to something in the gloves them selves, I dont know for sure and im going to see a doctor about it.

I asked for an accommodation without a doctors note because the injury is very apparent and the source location is known, but they refused and said they may still put me in dish despite both reports if I dont have a doctors note and they may remove me from the schedule if I do get one for the approval process of the accommodation.

Is it legal for them to force me to work in an area that actively and very apparently causes me harm and distress regardless of medical documentation?
