Pet indies love a bit of Ozzy … and quite a few are fans of American Authors. We learned this by asking the PETS+ Brain Squad: “If your business had a theme song, what would it be? It can be an existing one or a song you’d write (at least the title for).” Here are the answers for existing songs, and we’ll follow up ASAP with the original creations.

Break My Stride (Ain’t nothing gonna break my stride, nobody gonna slow me down, oh no, I got to keep on moving…) Kaye Busse-Kleber, Bark On Mulford, Rockford, IL

Love Cats by The Cure. Every time it comes on, it feels so fitting! Jennifer Flanagan, Pacific NW Pets, Sherwood, OR

I’m (We’re) Still Standing by Elton John. Because after POS conversions, inventory chaos, vendor research, store renovations, e-com, events, government bids, 5th Saturdays, a bus conversion to mobile boutique, etc — we’re still standing. Theresa Moreno, For Healthy Pets, Montgomery, AL

I Won’t Back Down by Tom Petty. Jennifer Thomas, Lucky Dog Pet Grocery & Bakery, Lawrence, KS

Something ska-punk: fast and upbeat. Perhaps Indestructible by Rancid. Katherine Ostiguy, Crossbones, Providence, RI

The Best by Tina Turner, baby! Comora Tolliver, Barkers Anonymous, Hendersonville, NC

We pride ourselves on our customer service and getting to know our customers, so I would say our theme song would be You Got a Friend in Me. Paula Gorman, Pet Supplies ‘N’ More, Muskego, WI

You Got a Friend in Me. Kim Sanchez, Valley Paws Boutique, Cleveland, TN

9 to 5. Jessica Cooke, Yuppy Puppy, O’Fallon, MO

Build Me Up Buttercup. We have a dog customer (Super Trooper) who actually starts dancing when we play that song, and we all dance along with him. Molly Lewis, Dog River Pet Supplies, Hood River, OR

Cheers theme song. Rebeca Santos, Pets Love and Happiness, Huntsville, AL

Eye of the Tiger by Survivor. Corey Heenan, Boutique and Pet Spa, Altamont, NY

Sometimes I think it should be If I Only Had a Brain. Barbara Clemmens, Aardvark Pet Supplies, Thornwood, NY

Drop It Like It’s Hot. Paul Lewis, The Green K9, Mount Dora, FL

I’m Still Standing. Dawn Hanner, Eastside Dog, Redmond, WA

I Just Want to Celebrate by Rare Earth. Amy & Pat Schiek, Lucky Dogs, Skaneateles, NY

It’s a Mad Mad World. Mark Roberts, Pet Life by Roberts Inc., Salina, KS

The Office theme song. Molly Taylor, Molly’s Mutt House, Houston, TX

She Works Hard for the Money. Beth Kidd, Dogs By Design, Irwin, PA

Best Day of My Life by American Authors. McKenna Burzimati, Roxie’s Barkery, North Adams, MA

Oh gosh, probably one of those overused inspirational songs like Proud or something … I may or may not be a sucker for those. Adina Silberstein, Queenie’s Pets, Philadelphia, PA

Under Pressure by David Bowie and Queen. Debbie Sanders, Pippa’s Closet Boutique, Beaumont, TX

Changes in Latitudes by Jimmy Buffett. We are a very laid back store and not much really makes me (outwardly) stressed out. Megan Kurzweil, Forepaws, Minooka, IL

I’m a Believer by The Monkees. Stephanie Bennett, Believe In Dog Training, Houston, TX

Born This Way by Lady Gaga. Dorothy Evans, Bushwickbark, Brooklyn, NY

It depends on the day. Sometimes Crazy Train is the theme song, but other days it’s So They Call it Puppy Love. Jennifer Hall, All Things Pawssible, Charlottesville, VA

Anything by Harry Styles lol. Mackenzie Crawford, Earthwise Pet Wenatchee, Wenatchee, WA

Shake It Off. Alexis Quiroga, PAWsitively Sweet Bakery, San Antonio, TX

The theme song from It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World. If you haven’t seen the movie, go watch it … like now. Samantha Youngblood, Youngblood’s Natural Animal Care Center and Massage, Wilkinson, IN

Simply the Best. Kim Sykes, K9 Manners & More, Broken Arrow, OK

Over the Rainbow or any song related to the Mad Hatter’s tea party. Laurie Wilson, Teca Tu — A Pawsworthy Pet Emporium, Santa Fe, NM

Don’t Stop Believin’, hold on to that feeling. Robert L. Critselous, Drooly’s Dog Bakery, Bentonville, AR

My Wish by Rascal Flatts perfectly reflects what we hope for every guest and their dog. It’s about encouraging others to grow, embrace the journey, and experience a life filled with confidence, joy, and meaningful moments together — exactly the kind of relationship we strive to help create every day. Lisa Kirschner, Sit, Stay, ‘N Play, Inc., Stroudsburg, PA

Best Day of My Life by American Authors. Jennifer Larsen, Firehouse Pet Shop, Wenatchee, WA

Crazy Train. Jen Murphy, Brookside Barkery & Bath, Kansas City, MO

The Best Day of My Life by American Authors. I picked Best Day of My Life because it just feels like Good Dog Gallery. It’s happy, upbeat and fun — and that’s the feeling I want people and their dogs to have when they walk into the store. Plus, judging by how excited some of our four-legged customers get when they come in for their treats, I like to think it might actually be the best day of their life! Lisa DeGloria, Good Dog Gallery, Portsmouth, NH

Don’t Stop Me Now (Queen). Ramie Gulyas, Follow Your Nose, Evanston, IL

Don’t Worry, Be Happy. Denise Strong, Pawz On Main, Cottonwood, AZ

Imagine by John Lennon. When I created my store, I wanted to create a space that makes people happy (because the world can be pretty crappy). I imagined what it could/would be like, and I strive to achieve that daily. It’s hard to get staffing “just right” – either they have nutritional knowledge and are a sourpuss, or they are happy and positive yet don’t know anything about pet food. Both are a challenge, but I try to make it work by (trying) to encourage positivity and teaching product knowledge – both take time … we’re getting there. Janet Cesarini, Pupology, Georgetown, TX
