Browns Nfl Draft: Myles Garrett Injury, Surgery Could Impact Draft

The Cleveland Browns made arguably the biggest move of the offseason when they decided to trade defensive end Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams.

In return for the two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year and the franchise’s all-time leader in sacks, the Browns received defensive end Jared Verse and three draft picks from the Rams – a first-round selection in 2027, a second-round selection in 2028, and a third-round selection in 2029.

The expectation among many was that the first-round selection in next year’s NFL Draft would be near the bottom of the round after the Rams loaded up in the offseason to become the league’s latest “Dream Team.”

Los Angeles got off to a rough start in Week 1 as they traveled all the way to Melbourne, Australia, to get manhandled by the San Francisco 49ers. In the loss, Garrett did not have a tackle and recorded just three pressures on San Francisco quarterback Brock Purdy. That was the first time that Garrett finished without recording a tackle since Week 11 of the 2024 season, and it was just the fourth time in his career, according to ESPN.

After the game, Garrett mentioned that his knee was not 100 percent. And while he declined to say which knee was bothering him, he missed most of training camp and wore a sleeve on his left leg during practices, according to media reports.

Turns out that whatever is bothering Garrett is serious enough that he will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his knee, which will land him on the injured reserve list for at least four weeks, according to NFL reporter Tom Pelissero and other media outlets.

The injury is bad news for Garrett and the Rams, and while you never want to see someone injured, it could potentially benefit the Browns as it pertains to next year’s draft pick from Los Angeles.

That is putting the cart very much before the horse, however, as the Rams have only played one game, meaning there is plenty of time for Garrett to heal up, and for the Rams to go on the type of run everyone is expecting from them.

Still, it will be worth keeping an eye on the situation as the season plays out.
