Cleveland Browns Training Camp Recap: Day 9 – No Closer To A Qb Decision
Day 9 of Cleveland Browns training camp took place Friday, August 7. Unfortunately, they closed practice to the fans, due to the threat of rain.
Cleveland Browns Training Camp Report – Day 9 (8/7/26)
1. Practice Closed Off to Fans: This morning, it was raining in Cleveland. Even though the forecast was scheduled to clear up, there was still a chance of thunderstorms later in the afternoon, so three hours before practice, the team made the call to move practice indoors today, which closed it off to fans. It always sucks when that happens from the fan perspective — in fact, today was originally going to be the date I attended training camp, until I realized it was also my anniversary (which is why I went to a practice earlier this week instead).
Nonetheless, our Jared Mueller was there at today’s practice as a member of the media, so he got some of the inside scoop for us.
2. And the Scoops Were Not Positive: During practice earlier, Jared had a live feed that he was updating, which you can see here. The results were not positive. First, Jared witnessed all the pre-snap issues the team has continued having:
They can’t get pre-snap penalties under control, literally not calling full plays and still can’t get things lined up right. Both quarterbacks. A timeout just had to be called because of how bad it was.”
And then, you have QB Shedeur Sanders overthrowing a downfield pass for an interception by S Emmanuel McNeil-Warren:
3. Some Positivity Up Front: After some extended off time for two potential starting offensive linemen, C Elgton Jenkins and RG Teven Jenkins returned to practice today. Luke Wypler and KT Leveston maintained the first-string reps for now, perhaps as they ease both of the Jenkins back in a bit. C Parker Brailsford was still out, as he has a brace on his right hand/wrist.
4. Floriea and Larvadain: I feel like I haven’t heard one mention of WR Cedric Tillman this camp, and WR Jamari Thrash was waived/injured earlier in the day. Meanwhile, we’ve been seeing last year’s two rookie undrafted receivers — WR Luke Floriea and WR Gage Larvadain — have a nice string of days again, making their case for a back-end roster spot or role on the practice squad. Here is a nice catch by Larvadain on a pass from QB Shedeur Sanders:

But then unfortunately, Larvadain alligator armed this one and didn’t haul it in from Watson:

5. Don’t Forgot Bond: One of the better passes of the day came when QB Deshaun Watson found WR Isaiah Bond streaking down the left sideline and hauling in the pass:

6. Gabriel Takes a Turn: QB Dillon Gabriel tried to throw the ball down the right sideline with two defenders there, and CB Donovan McMillon came away with the interception:

7. Lightning Doesn’t Strike Twice: Earlier, we saw QB Deshaun Watson connect with WR Isaiah Bond on a deep ball, but lightning doesn’t strike twice here, as a little later, he sailed a pass over his head that was picked off by CB Denzel Ward:

8. But Maybe It Did the Third Time: In an end-of-game situation, QB Deshaun Watson found WR Isaiah Bond for a touchdown:

The end-of-game drive for QB Shedeur Sanders ended after RB Raheim Sanders was stripped of the ball by LB Winston Reid.
9. Brownies: Installation periods for the offense are over. … DT Mason Graham returned to action, but LB Carson Schwesinger remains out. … Other players not practicing included FB Michael Burton, TE Joe Royer, CB Myles Bryant, DT Mike Hall, OG Zak Zinter, OT Izavion Miller, DT Elijah Chatman, DT Sam Kamara, and DT Kalia Davis. … Jared noted that it was quite humid inside the dome.
10. Up Next: The Browns will practice on Saturday at 1:30 PM ET. It will be open to the public.
