Giants' Cam Skattebo Exits Practice Early: 'it Won't Be Serious'

New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo left the team's practice early on Friday, Aug. 7 after a collision with rookie linebacker Arvell Reese, according to multiple reports.

While Skattebo did not return to the session, Giants coach John Harbaugh was not worried about the second-year running back's health when asked about it after practice. He implied the 24-year-old was still working on his conditioning as he works to return to the field.

"It's natural. I think he's working through the football shape part of it," Harbaugh said. "You know, he's coming off of rehab, so that's what that was. It won't be a serious injury at all."

Skattebo has been working his way back from a significant injury he suffered in the Giants' Week 8 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. His right leg was pinned awkwardly under Zack Baun during a tackle attempt by the linebacker, and he had to be carted off because of the injury.

Skattebo later had surgery to repair an open ankle dislocation, a fibula fracture and a deltoid ligament rupture, which ended his rookie season. He was given a recovery timeframe of 4-6 months and was expected to be ready for Week 1 of the 2026 NFL season.

All indications are that Skattebo has progressed well in his recovery from the injury to his right leg. And at Friday's practice, it was actually Skattebo's left leg that appeared to be bothering him, per ESPN's Jordan Raanan.

Even so, Harbaugh and the Giants will likely keep a close eye on Skattebo as he continues to test his injured leg. That could lead the team to give the 24-year-old some rest days and allow backups like Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Devin Singletary extra work at the position
