Dan Quinn: Penalties Kept Us From Playing A Complete Game

Card image cap

The Washington Commanders were big home favorites against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday Night Football. Those odds looked silly in the 1st quarter when they fell behind 10-0. The final score was 27-10 after the Commanders rallied to score 27 unanswered points, and evened the series with the Eagles for the season. Washington is now 2-4-1 and two games behind the 1st place Giants.

Dan Quinn needed that win more than any other head coach in the NFL this weekend, but one win won’t save the season and his job. He lamented the penalties that continue to be a problem for this team, and said they prevent them from playing a complete game. Quinn said they played 3 out of 4 quarters last night, but he’s still looking for a complete game this season.

Quinn was asked about RB Jeremy McNichols who left Sunday night’s game with a foot injury. There is concern the mid-foot injury is serious, and McNichols could be out for a while. The team has two RBs on the practice squad (Craig Reynolds, Devin Neal), and there are options available on other practice squads or in free agency. Bill Croskey-Merritt (groin) has to miss the next two games as he remains on injured reserve.

Too many penalties:

Dan Quinn on Zoom:

"We need plenty of work on penalties, false starts in particular, and corrections that eliminate beating ourselves. That's the thing that kept us honestly from playing what I would consider like a complete game"

Trey Amos no longer on snap count:

Quinn said Trey Amos is no longer on a pitch count:

"I knew at San Fran it would be limited, and now from here on like no need to do that."

Going for two against Philly:

Quinn on going for two late against the Eagles (after Philly did the same last season):

Jeremy McNichols’ foot injury:

#Commanders Dan Quinn said RB Jeremy McNichols has a "mid foot" injury and he's concerned it's serious. He said they'll consider bringing in some RB help if that proves to be true.

Jacory Croskey-Merritt (groin) will be on injured reserve for at least two more games.

Slow start vs the Eagles:

Quinn on going down 10-0 early vs. PHI

"When we were down towards the end of the first quarter, that was uncomfortable. There was also a pissed-off resilience to go play to the next drive and play to the next series."
