Joey Porter Unlikely To Play Vs. Falcons, Trade Remains Possibility
As the Pittsburgh Steelers get set to begin their season today against the Atlanta Falcons, they will likely be doing it without one of their top defenders.
According to Adam Schefter, Porter is unlikely to play in Week 1.
“Steelers CB Joey Porter Jr., who has been embroiled in a contract dispute all summer, is unlikely to play Sunday against the Falcons because of a back injury,” Schefter reports. “And the possibility of a trade remains in play.”
Porter has been seeking a contract extension throughout the offseason and didn’t partake in training camp or preseason play. In the midst of his hope for an extension, the Steelers extended Nick Herbig, Darnell Washington, and Keeanu Benton.
The Steelers elevated Doneiko Slaughter to the active roster on Saturday, which would implicate they are preparing to be without Porter.
