Report: Joey Porter Jr. Is Unlikely To Play Today, Trade Is Possible
Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. is unlikely to play today against the Falcons.
Porter, who is listed as questionable with a back injury, is unlikely to go, according to Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport.
The same report says Porter could be traded, as he and the Steelers have still not come to terms on the new contract Porter is seeking. The Steelers have said they won't negotiate with Porter during the season.
Porter said during the week that if he didn't play, it would be because of both his back and because he still has some conditioning work he needs to do after sitting out training camp. He has not said that he will sit out games in protest of his contract status, although that's certainly an inference some will take if he doesn't play today.
Porter is heading into the final season of the four-year contract he signed as the Steelers' second-round draft pick in 2023. He's slated to make $3.9 million this year, and any team trading for him would need to be prepared to pay him a whole lot more than that.
