The Nets thought adding some silly-billy physicality would help them beat the Knicks.

They were in for a rough one, seeing their losing skid against the New York team go up to 14 and counting.

Ooooofff…

Mike Brown

On being outcoached by Jordi Fernández on Friday:

“Jordi outcoached me. They outplayed us in a lot of areas. And we were just able to find a way to get a win.”

On Brooklyn’s physicality impacting the Knicks:

“They were extremely physical from the beginning of the game and it impacted us. Jordi Fernandez outcoached me, they outplayed us in a lot of areas. We were just able to find a way to get a win.”

On the lack of ball security against the Nets:

“We were real lackadaisical with the basketball. We had 13 turnovers at halftime…. I know as of late, for the most part, we’ve been pretty good in that area. We ended the game with 22. It’s not a good ingredient to have when you’re trying to get a road win, no matter who you’re playing. If your approach is not what it is, and the other team feels it, anybody can get beat at any time at any level. I said before the game, Brooklyn went into Detroit and beat Detroit. We know we have to play better. I believe in our guys. I believe our guys will play better.”

On handling pressure and putting on some physical defense:

“Give Brooklyn a lot of credit. I thought they came out and they were extremely physical throughout the whole game and it impacted us, starting with Jordi on down. Jordi out-coached me. They out-played us in a lot of areas, and we were just able to find a way to get a win. We have shown we’ve been comfortable with physicality in the past. Tonight was just one of those nights we didn’t do a good job handling their pressure. You’ve just gotta go by someone if somebody’s pressuring you cause they’re probably not gonna call the foul. You’ve just gotta go by them. You’ve gotta make the right play and if you make the right play, after going by them a couple times, the pressure will loosen up. And then whether you’re blitzed or hit, you just have to make sure you get off the ball timely. And then we had more 24 second shot clock violations tonight than the entire season. There were a lot of things that were unlike our group.”

On Cade Cunningham’s collapsed lung:

“The biggest thing is you wish him a speedy recovery. You don’t want anybody hurt. I don’t know enough about his injury, but it doesn’t sound good. So I hope it really heals, however it’s supposed to. I don’t know what the timetable or all that stuff is, I just hope he gets better.”

"Shoutout to my Pops…I didn't think I was gonna play…I know you watching Pops, love you, know you recovering…NGL I had a very long day…wasn't w team…showed up just to play…He wanted me to come play"

Karl-Anthony Towns

On playing on Friday despite dealing with personal stuff:

“I wasn’t going to play. My pops was adamant he wanted me to play. So I said I would. So I showed up just for the game to play. I’m going to head right back out and go be with him again for the road to recovery.”

On not expecting easy matchup against Brooklyn or whoever:

“They’re an NBA team, a really great team. They’ve got young talent, a great coaching staff. There’s no part of me that thought this was gonna be an easy game. We had to meet them and exceed the physicality. Obviously they brought it today. They wanted to win the game. Like I said, it was a team effort to win tonight.”

Mitchell Robinson

On Brooklyn trying to fight New York:

“They brought the fight to us. They came out; obviously, they wanted to prove a point. Our approach has to be better. We can’t just look at their record and say, ‘We’ll whoop their ass.’ We just got to be better altogether. Until we figure that part out, it’s going to be a long rollercoaster.”

On the need for respecting opponents regardless of record:

“This is probably the most physical they got with us. So you can’t take their record and say, this is an easy one. They’re grown-ass men just like us. They’re in the NBA just like us. So our approach got to be better and more respectful.”

On responding to the Nets’ physical play:

“You get physical back. That’s how it’s got to be. Got to stand on business about that. I’m not going to speak on (the scuffle) right now. It is what it is. I’m not talking about that s–t. You got to stand on business.”

On a physical Nets mob:

“We’ve played them how many times this year? Three or four? This is probably the most physical they’ve gotten with us. So we can’t just take their record and say this is an easy one. They’re grown-ass men just like us and in the NBA too, just like us. So our approach has to be better and more respectful. That’s all.”

Mikal Bridges

On how to fix slow starts:

“Just got to come out better. Just got to be better as a team. It’s mentally, I think. Just got to be mentally ready when the game starts.”

"I wanted that sh*t so f*ckin bad. Ever since we been here every game's an away game…Tonight was the night to stick it to everybody…show people we got sh*t here…Sea of blue, sea of orange, every game we play sea of the other team…"

Josh Minott (New Jersey Nets)

On wanting to beat the Knicks badly:

“I wanted that s–t so f–king bad. Ever since we’ve been here, it’s like every game is an away game. Friday was just the night to really just stick it to everybody, man. As an organization, as a team, to show people that we got s–t here, yo. Man, just a sea of blue, a sea of orange. Every game we play, it’s a sea of the other team. And I saw it here when I was on the Celtics. But being here, it’s like, I’ve got nothing but respect for the real fans, the real Brooklyn fans. Shoutout to them, because I know it’s tough being outnumbered every single game. But I really feel like what we have here isn’t bulls–t. We have pieces here. I’ve seen it. That’s what this ‘rivalry’ meant to me.”

On Karl-Anthony Towns’s softness:

“I played with KAT for two and a half years, man. I know him like this. He don’t like physicality. I love KAT, but he don’t like physicality. That’s my boy, too, but I hope this angers him, too. But yeah, we were real connected on bringing that physicality to him.”

"I played with KAT for 2.5 years man. I know him like this ????????. He don't like physicality. I love KAT, but he don't like physicality. That's my boy too. But I hope this angers him…"
