Lions, Cardinals Final Injury Report: Brian Branch Officially Out Vs. Arizona
The Detroit Lions (2-2) and Arizona Cardinals (1-3) have declared their injury designations ahead of Sunday afternoon's matchup in the desert.
While Lions safety Brian Branch looked great in practice this week, he will not play in Sunday's game. Fans may not have to wait long to see him out there again, though.
Let's take a look at Friday's injury report and get you up to date with what we know.
Note: Any changes from the most recent injury report will be bolded.
Ruled OUT
G Ben Bartch (foot)
C Cade Mays (wrist, IR) — Days remaining in evaluation window: 18
CB Rock Ya-Sin (hamstring)
S Brian Branch (achilles, PUP) — Days remaining in evaluation window: 18
The injury report confirms what Lions coach Dan Campbell had already more-or-less revealed when it comes to the return of Cade Mays and Brian Branch. Neither player is quite ready to play after just one week of practice, but the Lions are targeting the Packers game out of the bye week for both of their returns. Both will stay in Detroit during the bye to get their bodies ready for Week 7.
"They're going to be here continuing to condition, get ready—as (much) football stuff as they can do without it being that with the training staff," Cambpell said. "Then let's get them going Green Bay week. Let's get them going, and then we'll assess. Hopefully by midweek, we'll have a pretty good idea. We'd love to get them ready to go versus Green Bay."
Bartch will miss his third straight game. But the Lions opted not to put him on injured reserve, so it's reasonable to believe that he, too, could be back after Detroit's bye week. It will be interesting to see if he re-enters the competition for the starting left guard job or if Christian Mahogany has done enough to keep that role.
Ya-Sin was demoted from the starting lineup before suffering an injury on special teams last game. It's unclear how severe his injury is.
Questionable
DL Tyleik Williams (foot)
Williams told the Detroit Free Press on Thursday that his foot injury was just a bruise and he should be good to go against the Cardinals. A limited practice on Thursday and Friday plus a questionable designation leaves the door open for him to miss the game, but all signs are positive for the Lions defensive tackle. And that's good news, because Campbell sung his praises on Friday.
"He's such a good athlete and he's powerful. He's powerfully strong and he really has a heightened sense of awareness for football. His FBI [football intelligence] is way up there," Campbell said. "And so, when you combine all those with a guy who's going in his second year and has just taken off, he really took off by the end of the year and he picked up where he left off, had a really good camp and four games in, he is continuing to climb."
Not listed with an injury designation
EDGE DJ Wonnum (back)
Wonnum has been battling a back injury for over a week now, but it hasn't impacted his availability. Though he did play just 36 snaps last week.
