Nfl Predictions: Can Cam Ward Bounce Back In Titans-ravens Matchup?
Cam Ward had his worst game as a professional last week. He missed a wide-open Carnell Tate in the end zone on one drive and threw an interception in the end zone to seal the game on another drive. If he hits Tate, or if he doesn’t throw that interception, the Tennessee Titans probably get their first win of the season.
He gets the chance to bounce back this week against the Baltimore Ravens. Through three games, the Ravens defense is middle of the pack in passing yards allowed, rushing yards allowed, and points allowed. Baltimore has historically been great on defense. The current unit doesn’t rank that way early in the season.
Ward doesn’t have to be Superman for the Titans to be good on offense. He just needs to take care of the ball and hit the easy throws that are there. He wasn’t able to do that against the New York Giants.
It all starts with his footwork. Paul Kuharsky wrote a great piece this week about the breakdown in Ward’s footwork. We knew it was a problem last year. That was supposed to be the focus of his offseason. Robert Saleh said this week that Ward’s footwork has been better early in games but breaks down as the game goes on.
It hasn’t looked that way to me. To me, it looks like there is no consistency in his footwork from play to play at any point in the game. Until he can figure out a way to do it right consistently, we will continue to see the up-and-down play that we have seen through his first 20 games in the NFL.
