Saints Rookie Report – Preseason Week 1

Welcome to this season’s first edition of the New Orleans Saints rookie report. This year’s class should be as exciting as what we saw in 2025, so let’s not waste time for the Week 1 preseason preview.

WR Jordyn Tyson

Although the Saints may be smart to not risk Jordyn Tyson’s health in preseason, I would not be surprised if he gets some game time before the regular season. He’s still a rookie, and getting reps on an NFL field will prepare him for the season.

Tyson is one of the Saints’ best offensive players right away, and fans should be excited to see him play, but it might not happen right away.

DT Christen Miller

The opposite of Tyson’s situation, Christen Miller should have plenty of playing time. The second-round pick has been dealing with some minor injuries this offseason, but he is back in practice and should be ready for Saturday. With other injuries hitting the defensive tackle room, Miller is likely going to be the starting nose tackle for the preseason. Even if Davon Godchaux was healthy, Miller starting for now was likely, and he has a really good opportunity to show the coaching staff that he can play right away during the regular season.

TE Oscar Delp

Juwan Johnson is likely not going to play much in preseason, which means it’s Oscar Delp’s time to shine. The rookie’s production in college was subpar, but the talent was always there. His athletic ability sets him apart from other TEs, and his blocking will really help the team.

During the regular season, his snaps are expected to be lower during his rookie season, so the preseason could be the place we see him have the most impact. It’s going to be very interesting to see his utilization in the red zone as well.

G Jeremiah Wright

Another player who has had some minor injuries in training camp, Jeremiah Wright is our first depth piece from the draft class who may not see the field this season. Preseason is going to be extremely important for the rookie, and if he is able to have a good few games, competing for the starting spot may not be out of the question. But that’s unlikely, since Wright is more of a developmental prospect, even if he’s had a good start to camp.

WRs Bryce Lance and Barion Brown

With both of the next rookies being WRs and having very similar camps so far, I wanted to put them together. Bryce Lance has been super consistent in training camp, and adding a sprinkle of big plays, he has been a standout player. Barion Brown has been a big-play machine, and while he has had some drops, he has been mostly consistent overall.

These two are not going to break that top 3 WR group that the Saints have, but they can be heavy contributors right away, and preseason is going to be a great way to show that.

DBs Lorenzo Styles Jr. and TJ Hall

Similar to Lance and Brown, Lorenzo Styles Jr. and TJ Hall can also be grouped together. Both are DBs that will impact special teams right away, but not really defense. Each will be able to show in preseason what they could potentially bring to the defense now and possibly in the future, but again, that’s unlikely in their rookie seasons.

Styles Jr. is extremely athletic and has some defensive versatility that allows him to step in at safety and CB, while Hall can play outside corner or slot. With injuries, these two may have some starting playtime this season, but their snaps on defense will mostly come in preseason.
