Steelers’ Signing Of Elandon Roberts Leaves Veteran On Chopping Block

The Pittsburgh Steelers made the very popular decision to bring back veteran linebacker Elandon Roberts on a one-year deal, per Adam Schefter. Roberts spent two seasons with the Steelers from 2023-24. And while his time in Pittsburgh was somewhat brief, he earned the admiration of many fans for his hard-hitting play-style.

Additionally, Roberts played under Steelers defensive coordinator Patrick Graham last season in Las Vegas with the Raiders, so there is already comfortability with the scheme on the part of the two-time Super Bowl champion linebacker.

His return strengthens and deepens an already solid linebacking corps, where he will likely slot in as the No. 3 or No. 4 linebacker alongside Patrick Queen, Payton Wilson, and Cole Holcomb with second-year man Carson Bruener serving as one of the team’s top special teamers. This does, however, leave a veteran on a very obvious chopping block.

Malik Harrison is set to make just under $7 million in 2026, making him the 11th most expensive player on the roster in terms of this season. Should the Steelers cut the former Raven, they would save $4.75 million against the cap, which they will almost certainly do.

The Steelers signed Harrison to a two-year, $10 million deal in 2025, where he registered 41 tackles in 11 games last season.
