One of the biggest defensive signings of the offseason came when the Pittsburgh Steelers added versatile safety Jaquan Brisker from the Chicago Bears, signing him to a one-year deal. The Penn State product spent the first four seasons of his career in Chicago, making an astounding 342 tackles and picking off four passes.

In signing with the Steelers, Brisker reunites with his Penn State teammate Joey Porter Jr. Brisker was asked about his relationship with the Steelers’ star cornerback, and he noted that he hat to help Porter mature in college, but that’s a role he took great pride in as a captain with the Nittany Lions. He also joked that Porter had a bit of an ego as a high-star recruit out of high school and that he had to keep him in line.

Brisker was asked about the process of joining the Steelers, and he said that Porter was on FaceTime with him urging him to come to Pittsburgh.

“I was in California, I was training at West Lake Village at Proactive [when I found out I was going to be a Steeler],” Brisker said. “And to be honest, Joey was kind of on the phone call too, a little bit. He was on FaceTime, because he was blowing up my agent and blowing me up like, ‘What are you gonna do?’ I’m like, ‘Bro, I’m probably gonna be a Steeler.‘”

With the addition of Brisker, as well as Jamel Dean, the Steelers have one of the most complete defensive backfields in the NFL, at least on paper. Finding a nickel cornerback remains somewhat of a need, but it’s hard to argue with what they’ve done thus far.
