Ufl Mvp Set To Work Out For 49ers. His Coach Thinks He's At 'nfl Standard'

The reigning MVP of the United Football League (UFL) may soon be taking his talents to the NFL.

Orlando Storm quarterback Jack Plummer is set to work out for the San Francisco 49ers and Miami Dolphins, according to KPRC 2 Houston's Aaron Wilson. The 26-year-old's workout with the 49ers will be on Friday, July 24 while his session with the Dolphins will come next week.

Plummer enjoyed a stellar first season in the UFL, helping lead the Storm to an 8-2 record while completing 65% of his passes for a league-best 2,188 yards and 17 touchdowns with just a single interception. He also ran for 189 yards and two touchdowns, including a 70-yard scamper that resulted in a touchdown.

Plummer's performance earned him the league's MVP award and also earned him effusive praise from his coach, Anthony Becht.

Becht referred to Plummer as "the model of consistency" in a phone interview with USA TODAY Sports during an interview before Week 9 of the 2026 UFL season. The 2026 UFL Coach of the Year praised Plummer's "poise" and opined the quarterback was "elite" at "handling the operation" and setting up Orlando's offense for success.

He also opined Plummer was performing "at an NFL standard" and should get another chance to rejoin the league after his initial stint with the Carolina Panthers, which spanned the 2024 season and 2025 offseason.

"I would be would be absolutely befuddled and shocked if he is not on an NFL roster next year," Becht told USA TODAY Sports. "I'm not quite sure what they're looking for if he isn't. He deserves to be somewhere else, and that's why he can here to prove and show that he can lead. He can. He has the talent to do it."

Despite Becht's confidence, Plummer hasn't yet gotten that NFL opportunity. He will have a chance to showcase his skills for the 49ers, who could consider signing the 26-year-old to compete with 2024 UFL MVP Adrian Martinez and 2025 seventh-round pick Kurtis Rourke for the third-string job behind Brock Purdy and Mac Jones.

And if the 49ers don't bite, Plummer will get a chance to convince the Dolphins to sign him to compete with Cam Miller and Mark Gronowski for the third-string job behind Malik Willis and Quinn Ewers.
