Vanderbilt Rb Sedrick Alexander To Donate $280 Per Touchdown In Honor Of Former Titans Star Chris Johnson

Vanderbilt running back Sedrick Alexander will donate $280 per touchdown scored moving forward, to the ALS Association, in honor of former Tennessee Titans RB Chris Johnson. Johnson recently revealed his diagnosis earlier this year as his condition accelerated.

“I wanted to use something I love doing to make a difference,” Alexander told Vandy on SI. “Every touchdown gives me a chance to give back to the community and show my support for Chris Johnson as he faces his challenges.”

Vanderbilt head coach Clark Lea commented on Alexander’s pledge moving forward. A Nashville guy through and through, Alexander embodies what Lea wants to preach and teach to all of his players.

“I think it says so much about Sedrick,” Lea said. “This is a first class guy. I mean, he’s someone who’s been here, this is his fourth season. He’s grown up in the program. He came here in the lean years and he’s helped build this to the point where we find ways to win games like we did on Saturday.

“But there’s an element of empathy there and the care for community and  the shared jersey number too, which I think is really special and obviously honoring a former Titan that way for Nashville is really neat. He’s a great person. He’s a great player, but he’s an even better person, and we’re really fortunate to have him with us.”

So far this season, Alexander has 26 carries for 152 yards, two touchdowns and 5.8 yards per carry. He has 23 career touchdowns, all with Vanderbilt since 2023. In total, Alexander has 1,676 yards, 23 touchdowns, 4.3 yards per carry, 65 catches, 605 receiving yards and six touchdown receptions.

As a member of the Class of 2023, Alexander was a three-star recruit out of Austin (Texas) LBJ, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking. He was the No. 109 overall prospect in the state, the No. 49 running back in the class and the No. 690 overall prospect in the class.

During his time in the NFL, Johnson was one of the most explosive running backs in the league. He was selected to the Pro Bowl three times and was named Offensive Player of the Year in 2009 after setting the NFL single-season record with the most yards from scrimmage (2,509).

After spending six seasons with the Titans, Johnson played for the New York Jets in 2014. He then spent three seasons with the Arizona Cardinals before announcing his retirement in November 2018.
