"shopping" For Legal Representation For Disability

Card image cap

Location: Colorado

Very long story short, I have separated from company due to complications with a company-protected disability that left me unable to work. Under the company policy, I qualify for short-term-disability from company's life insurance. Yet they are unjustly denying my claim.

I have been informed from my doctor that this insurance is notorious for this kind of thing, and that it has historically been in the employee's best interest to secure legal representation who specializes in disability to file a formal appeal and any further actions.

I have researched and found a few firms or individual attorneys in my area that specialize and go so far as to advertise resolving my exact problem. The question is that I have never interacted with any sort of legal party, I don't know how it's determined if they can take a case, or if they will fully understand my case.

Any advice on how to "shop" for and hire the right attorney? I feel like everything is case-by-case so any sort of "reviews" might not apply to my situation. I'm really at a loss, I don't fully understand what I'm doing.

Any help is appreciated.
